Welcome back to True Life! With this twice-monthly , I’ll be posting helpful tips on taking better pictures of your kids, learning to use your camera, fun ways to display family photos, custom photo gifts, etc.
Did you guys enjoy the Holiday Gift Guide throughout November? I really had a lot of fun putting it all together. Now comes the hard part – I have to choose a holiday card, and I just can’t decide which Minted.com design to choose…or what photos to pick! At least things are slowing down to more manageable levels, so I should be able to wrap that up this week. (Wish me luck!)
Now - back to tips for taking better pictures of your children! If you’ve had a photo session with me, you’ve probably seen this next tip in action. I use it pretty often, especially with toddlers. It is so simple, and yet so effective!
…let the kids be in charge!…
Let them decide where to sit, where to stand, whether to smile or be serious, whether to go first or go last. This tip is especially helpful when everyone starts to get a little tense…if you feel your stress levels rising, just LET GO…relinquish control. If you let the kids take charge of the photo session, I can pretty much guarantee you happy, smiling faces and much less aggravation for everybody! And you may end up with some of your very favorite images ever. This happens to me all. the. time. Like these photos of my littles from back in September…
(And look – I did get in front of the camera! I just set the self-timer a couple of times, ran like hell and tried to look natural! Ha!)
